Hatteras Windsurfing Launches - Salvo Day Use

Beginner to Intermediate

Salvo Day Use Area is just south of Salvo on the sound side. It has an expansive grassy areas for rigging and other activities. Sailing is best on S, SW, N, NW, and NE winds. No crowds here. This spot is becoming increasingly popular with the kiters but windsurfers still sail here .

A nice bathroom and shower area was built right next to the launch area and opened Spring 2005.

A satellite view shows the launch area and the expanse of shallow water. The dark areas are vegetation rather than deeper waters. Here you can see four people out on the water on what looks like a SW wind. The entrance is well to the South of the launch area, just out of the picture here. Look for the large "Day Use Area" sign.
