Of the numerous launches available to us in and around the Hampton Roads area, most are good for SW through E to N winds. However west and northwest winds afford the least number of launches. Day's Inn, on the tip of Willoughby Spit, makes for a good launch from several directions because of it's geometry.
In this picture, Dave Kashy is enjoying a brisk NW wind at Day's Inn. This site can be particularly picturesque when the Navy yard is full of the big ships. On this prticular day there were at least two large aircraft carriers docked at the Navy base.
